If you’re looking for the perfect entry-level, mostly off-road, recreational cycling challenge that showcases the best of this stunning region, the Lakesider is the event for you.

 

Grab your family and friends and make a weekend of it. This leisurely 17km ride is predominantly flat and offers plenty of jaw-dropping, beautiful scenic moments synonymous with the Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge.

This truly special course winds its way around the iconic lakefront bays via the paths and parks Taupō is famous for. Have a picnic along the way and soak up the views, then head to the finish line and take in the atmosphere of being part of New Zealand’s largest cycling event.

  • Start Time:

    Friday from 12pm till 8pm and Saturday from 6am till 9am

  • Riders will be started in waves of 20 with 3 minute intervals between each wave – this will allow a spread of cyclists along the route to avoid bunching.

  • Lakesider participants are not eligible for the Major Spot Prizes but will have their own prize draw.

  • Electric bikes are permitted as part of the event category and will be timed separately from the non assisted bikes. All e-bikes must be pedal assistance and have a maximum power output not exceeding 300 watts. We will not be supplying charging stations around the course. Please ensure you register in the ebike event category when you enter online.

  • Minimum age for this event is 8 years old (or 5 years old if riding with an adult). Children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult.
