July / August Recap
In July, I spent a couple of weeks back home in New Zealand, which was so nice despite the much colder temperatures! It was a great reset before flying back to the U.S. on the 14th and heading straight into Chicago Grit, 10 days of criterium racing from the 18th–27th. My team and I worked together to secure podium finishes almost every day.
My usual role is to use my pursuit strength to lead out teammates for the final sprint, but on some days I had to switch it up and go for the breakaway myself. I managed a couple of podiums and finished 5th overall for the 10 days, with our team taking 2nd overall.
After Chicago Grit, I flew to Milan for four days of track racing with my NZ teammate. It was a tough trip, the fatigue from racing and travel definitely caught up with me, but I learnt a lot and built plenty of character.
I was glad to get back to the U.S. on the 7th of August, settle into a good training rhythm, and enjoy some downtime with only a few races left in the season. A highlight was having my boyfriend Damon fly over from NZ to visit for a couple of weeks, we had so much fun exploring more of New Jersey together.
Now it’s down to the last couple of races before I fly home on the 10th of September!
