2025 Special Awards

Each year there are several awards presented at prizegiving. These awards represent the essence of the Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge and we are proud to be able to honour people in the name of these awards each year.

The Dan Dunne Memorial Trophy

This trophy has been donated by the Dunne family to commemorate Dan Dunne and is presented to a participant who has triumphed over adversity to complete the event. This year’s recipient is Colin “Wal” Anderson. Wal has completed over 100 laps around the lake and is aiming for 111! Wal has had prostate cancer, experienced heart attacks, with the odd hernia problem as well. At 65 he rode 65 laps of Lake Taupō for fun! What a legend.

The Matthew Dryden Memorial Trophy

This trophy is awarded to the most promising young cyclist. This trophy is donated by the Dryden family in memory of Matthew. This year the Matthew Dryden Memorial Trophy was awarded to Joshua Cavanagh from Hamilton.

The Fred Ogle Memorial Award

The Fred Ogle Memorial Award is awarded for an Outstanding Good Samaritan act on the ride. This year’s Fred Ogle Memorial Award recipient is Bike Mechanic Extraordinaire, Mike Lindsay. Mike is an absolute superstar for all the people that he has helped out on the course today. He fixed bikes with buckled wheels, brake problems, bent derailers and more. Kudos to you Mike!

The Contact Energy Volunteer Award

Some of our volunteers have been helping out for a long time now and we think this is worthy of special mention so each year we give a special award to the Contact Energy Volunteer of the Year. This year the award went to Christine Russell. Christine has been working with the event for many, many years, representing and leading the Tauhara College community group who manage a number of aid stations around the course.  Christine does an amazing job organising and sorting their required people. Sometimes with little notice, Christine always manages to fill the spots they need, and always with a smile!

Kim Manunui

Hi, I’m Kim and I work with a great team to help individuals, as well as small and not so small businesses get their message, product and services to the world using digital media and creating wonderful websites that don’t cost the earth.

I was born in Canada, and grew up around Vancouver and the mountains of British Columbia. My love of pristine environments led me to New Zealand and eventually to the mountains, lakes and rivers of the central North Island which is home. My family’s heritage is here, and it’s from here that Korio traverses the planet.

The digital world is never static and neither are we.

And I say ‘we’ because I work with an awesome group of talented people who I gather together as required to complete a project.  Whatever your business, not-for-profit or individual needs are we gather the best team to get the job done.

Collaboratively we are creative, share sustainable values and work hard for great outcomes because that’s the buzz of satisfaction that drives us.

If you have an audience and market to reach, we can make that happen. Creative design, words that work and smart behind the scenes stuff that cuts through the online noise. We’ll design your website and then build it. We’ll manage the content as well as all your hosting needs. We can handle your online advertising so you get noticed,
and we’ll manage your social media presence so you get the clicks, likes and engagement to grow your business. All within the budget you set, because none of this needs to cost the earth.  And the job doesn’t stop when your website goes live. We are your virtual business partner.
