The countdown is on, get into gear with Spring Training

Spring is here, making it the perfect time to start building towards the Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge.

As you get out on the bike, keep three simple training principles in mind:

PROGRESSION

Build your training gradually.

Start with distances and ride times that feel manageable, then steadily increase them over the weeks ahead. You don’t need to make every ride longer or harder than the last, the aim is to give your body time to adapt as you build towards your event distance.

Your longer weekend ride is a great place to add a few extra kilometres each week. As event day gets closer, those longer rides will help build your endurance and, just as importantly, your confidence.

Don’t worry if you miss a ride or have an easier week. Training doesn’t have to be perfect. Consistency over time is what counts.

FREQUENCY

Aim to get on the bike regularly.

For many riders, three rides a week is a good target. Try a couple of shorter rides during the week, then make time for a longer ride on the weekend or whenever your schedule allows.

Those shorter rides all add up. They keep the legs moving, help build fitness and get your body used to spending regular time on the bike.

As you progress, mix up your rides too. Some can be easy spins, some a little quicker, and others longer and steadier. You don’t have to go hard every time you head out the door.

HILLS

Don’t avoid them!

The Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge isn't all flat, so getting some climbing into your legs before event day will pay off.

Start by adding a few smaller hills into your regular rides. As your fitness builds, look for routes with longer climbs or a few hills back-to-back. Ride them at a pace you can sustain, get comfortable using your gears and remember that you don’t need to race to the top.

And what goes up usually comes down. Use your training rides to build confidence descending too, particularly if you’re not used to riding rolling or hilly terrain.

The hills might hurt a little now, but come November, your legs will thank you.

Kim Manunui

Hi, I’m Kim and I work with a great team to help individuals, as well as small and not so small businesses get their message, product and services to the world using digital media and creating wonderful websites that don’t cost the earth.

I was born in Canada, and grew up around Vancouver and the mountains of British Columbia. My love of pristine environments led me to New Zealand and eventually to the mountains, lakes and rivers of the central North Island which is home. My family’s heritage is here, and it’s from here that Korio traverses the planet.

The digital world is never static and neither are we.

And I say ‘we’ because I work with an awesome group of talented people who I gather together as required to complete a project.  Whatever your business, not-for-profit or individual needs are we gather the best team to get the job done.

Collaboratively we are creative, share sustainable values and work hard for great outcomes because that’s the buzz of satisfaction that drives us.

If you have an audience and market to reach, we can make that happen. Creative design, words that work and smart behind the scenes stuff that cuts through the online noise. We’ll design your website and then build it. We’ll manage the content as well as all your hosting needs. We can handle your online advertising so you get noticed,
and we’ll manage your social media presence so you get the clicks, likes and engagement to grow your business. All within the budget you set, because none of this needs to cost the earth.  And the job doesn’t stop when your website goes live. We are your virtual business partner.
