April Recap
In April, I got back into some solid training as I prepared for the racing season in America with the Fearless Femme Team.
My sport scientist had me trialling a method called Norwegian Threshold Training, which involves two sessions a day, twice a week with longer threshold efforts between 6-12 minutes in the morning, followed by shorter efforts between 3-5 minutes in the afternoon. It’s definitely been a challenge, but I can already feel the benefits coming through!
I also completed the Shore to Shore Fun Run with my nephew Lucas. he seriously impressed me, running 5.6 km at a 5:43/km pace! Later in the month, I raced the ANZAC Criterium in B Grade (a mixed field of men and women). It was a short 15 minute race around the centre of Cambridge, and great practice for the type of racing I’ll be doing in the U.S. I finished 7th overall and was the first woman across the line!
At the end of the month, I also finished my internship with Basketball New Zealand. I was sad to finish, as it was such a positive experience and I really valued the connections I made with the team there.
Now, it’s time to shift my focus on completing my final Master’s paper before starting my own research next year!
I’m super excited to be part of the Fearless Femme Racing Team this year! I’m staying with a host family in a town called Lambertville, and I’m absolutely loving it so far. We recently got all our team kit and bikes, it honestly felt like Christmas! I can’t wait to get stuck into racing and see what the season brings.
