I Am Hope.
Changing the way New Zealand talks about mental health
I Am Hope is a youth-focused mental health charity founded by Mike King. Their mission is simple: to break the stigma around mental health and give young people the hope, tools, and support they need.
Through their key initiative Gumboot Friday, they fund free counselling for anyone under 25. No waiting lists. No judgement. Just immediate access to qualified professionals when our rangatahi need it most.
But counselling is only part of the solution. That’s why they take the conversation into schools, communities, and workplaces—normalising the ups and downs of mental health, teaching emotional resilience, and letting young people know: it’s okay to not be okay.
They also drive projects like the 1000 Letters initiative, gathering real voices and stories from those affected by suicide to inspire change, improve services, and remind people they’re never alone.
Every dollar donated goes directly towards supporting young people in crisis. By standing with I Am Hope, you’re helping to create a future where no young Kiwi feels they have to fight their battles in silence.
Together, we can give hope.
